About the Breed

They really are much more like a dog! You may find your Maine Coon in the shower, watching TV, riding in the care or socializing with guests. They are amazing! This is Gold Rush claiming the top of the couch as she gazes out the window.

Did you know that many Maine Coons "chirp" when they are watching activities. Many times you can see the cats watching birds or our flock of chickens out the window while making chirping noises. Gold Rush is our talker, she makes up for our rather quite cattery all by herself.

Its true they love dogs!

Not only do Maine Coons act like dogs, they love dogs. It takes a few days to get use to new dogs but then they are best buddies. This is our terrier mix with Sterling, often they nap together, eat together and play together.

They grow at different rates

Some kittens go through the awkward kitten phase and grow rather quickly starting with legs, others grow slowly. This is our Doc Holiday that arrived around 6 months old and looked like an ordinary cat, this is just a few months later at 10 months old with my husband Joe who is 6' tall and 200 pounds.  Doc's kittens are charting 19 pounds for males at 9 months old. Be patient and please don't neuter early as the hormones help them grow and develop naturally. It's noted that neutering these guys before 9 months can stunt their growth but it's best to neuter before 18 months to prevent sexual activities when they aren't warranted.

Kittens are vet checked and adults are continually monitored.

Dr. Gary Darling DVM in Chico, CA has been our trusted vet for 22 plus years. We use him and Millville vet to check every kitten before they leave. The kittens are vaccinated, de-wormed and microchipped, the parents get DNA checked and are monitored by our vet.

Its important to make a good connection with your vet, not only for preventative care but for emergencies.
